TEHRAN (IQNA) – When truth-seekers and noble people show the right path to people, there are some who feel their interests threatened. They apparently accept the introduced changes and developments but in their heart, they seek to create deviations on the path.

Suran Al-Munafiqun

This is a behavior that the Holy Quran describes as that of Munafiqun (the hypocrite), and Surah Al-Munafiqun is about them.

Al-Munafiqun is the name of the Quran’s 63rd chapter. It has 11 verses and is in the 28th Juz. It is Madani and the 105th Surah revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Munafiqun is the plural form of the word Munafiq, which means someone who is a disbeliever in his heart but claims to be a believer.

The Surah talks about the characteristics and behaviors of the hypocrites and their enmity with Muslims. It orders the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to be careful about the dangers of the hypocrite and urges believers to give alms on the path of God and avoid being two-faced.

This chapter shows the true face of the hypocrite and their plots against Muslims, saying they will be deprived of God’s forgiveness and mercy. It also enumerates the factors such as wealth, position and children, which divert people from the remembrance of God.

The issue of knowing the hypocrite has been given emphasis since the advent of Islam because their remarks and behaviors caused disputes among different groups of Muslims. The Surah mentions the characteristics of the hypocrite and underlines that Muslim should avoid them.

The first sign of hypocrisy is the difference between the Zahir (appearance) and the Batin (what is in their heart). They say in words that they are believers but there is no faith in their heart. Another sign is resorting to swearing to reach their objectives.

Their physical appearance is attractive and they speak pleasantly, however, they are like blocks of wood in striped cloaks. They have no independence and no strong will. There is always fear in their hearts and they are always doubtful and uncertain.
